Dear Members,
A somewhat shorter note from me this month, reflecting that we are now through the main busy part of the season and have already drifted seamlessly in to the autumn months.
The Club’s Dinner and Presentation Evening was held at the B2NET Stadium on Saturday 29th October 2011, in all 74 members and guests attended this event to support the Club and Captain Jim Carter. I think it’s safe to say that a good time was had by all and the venue once again provided very good food and a pleasant atmosphere. 21 members received their ‘prizes’ on the night, winners who were not present will be able to collect their prizes from the clubhouse over the coming weeks. Those who attended will no doubt remember Jim’s after dinner speech for quite some time! I know Jim thanked a lot of people on the night, but I would like to once again record my personal thanks to Jon Roberts for making the necessary booking arrangements, creating the table plan, the menu cards and the place names and for his excellent ‘control’ of the evening as our MC. Thanks must also go to Chris Shaw for ordering the glassware for the competition winners and to Carl Hayes & Jane Hardy for sorting out the club’s trophies.
Course Maintenance
Continued thanks must go to the members of our Greens Staff and Greens Sub-Committee and to any other members they’ve co-opted to help with general maintenance work and improvements around the course. In particular, John Allsop has been developing his dry stone-walling skills, by repairing some of the more dilapidated boundary walls around the course. Work is also underway to repair a number of the winter tees on the course. Thanks to Pete Yeomans who kindly donated (& delivered) a number of old railway sleepers, which are already being put to good use.
