Dear Members,
Annual Club Dinner & Presentation Evening
This year’s Club Dinner and Presentation Evening is being held at the B2NET Stadium on Saturday 29th October 2011 starting at 7.00pm for 7.30pm, the cost will be £27.00 per person. This is a really good venue, with a very pleasant atmosphere. I hope a lot of you are able and willing to attend this year’s event to support your Captain and Club and, if you’ve been lucky enough to win something – collect your prize(s).
A list for you to enter your names & make your menu choices is displayed at the side of the bar in the main clubhouse - feel free to invite family & friends along if you wish. Many thanks go to Jon Roberts for making the necessary booking arrangements.
To aid preparations for this year’s Presentation Evening, could anyone who has a trophy at home from last year, please return it to the Club (in a clean and polished condition) as soon as possible – Thank you.
Club & Course News
At the beginning of September the initial steps were taken to investigate the possibility of the Club benefitting from the energy generated by one, or two small wind turbines. A meeting was held to determine whether Stanedge is a suitable location for their erection. If it is, they could well help ease our financial situation. When more details are known, I will pass more information on.
Course Signage
The more observant of you will have noticed the recent appearance of new signs around the course. Many thanks to members of the Greens committee and helpers for taking this work forwards & to Geoff Slater for the provision of the signs – all very much appreciated!
Course Maintenance
On Monday 12th September the greens were ‘hollow tined’ – Many thanks go to all members of the ‘Working Party’ who volunteered their services on the day. Your assistance was very much appreciated by all! Below, a selection of our volunteers can be seen hard at work on the 9th green.
Trouble encountered on the way to the golf course
On Saturday 3rd September several members (me included) and their Mixed Invitation Day guests encountered problems on their way to the golf course because the Matlock Road was closed due to an incident. Unusually, this turned out to be because a ‘Water Buffalo’ had fallen out of the back of a cattle truck whilst in transit to the Chatsworth show. Fortunately, everyone managed to find an alternative route to the course and the competition proceeded with minimal disruption.
September Competition Results

The Gents completed their friendly fixtures finishing up with an overall record of Played 8, Won 3 & Lost 5. Thanks to everyone who supported the Captain and the Club by playing in these friendly matches throughout the season.
Finally, another reminder - please support your Captain & Club by attending this year’s Presentation Evening & Dinner if you’re able to do so – I’m sure you’ll have an enjoyable evening and your attendance will be much appreciated!
Let’s face it, if the venue is good enough for Elton John, it should be good enough for Stanedge Golf Club.
More from me in the coming weeks!
Andy Hesketh
Club Chairman
